About The System

Jim Mahan and Roger Lewis developed a new system of Martial Arts, called Sil Jeon Mu Sool Kwan®, which is a compilation of several martial styles. Sil Jeon Mu Sool Kwan is the name chosen to represent our Martial Arts system. Our evolved Martial Art system is not strictly Tae Kwon Do, Hap Ki Do, Brazilian Jujitsu or Arnis, but rather a blending of their influences. “Sil Jeon” represents the fighting or combative aspects of our art. “Mu Sool” represents the Martial Arts techniques from Korea and other lands. “Kwan” literally means building or hall, but when used in martial arts it can also refer to a school or clan of martial artists who follow the s ame style and/or leader.

The idea of a compilation system is nothing new, in fact ancient Masters were known for their blending of various styles. In modern times, many Martial Art ists have realized the benefits of cross-training to enhance their skills and knowledge. Our system is a multi-faceted art of empty-handed self-defense, weapons training, standing grappling and ground defense. The present curriculum is a result of years of extensive research under some of the foremost authorities in their respective arts.

Sil-Jeon Mu Sool Kwan is certainly one of the most comprehensive systems of self-defense and combative techniques in the world.

Sil-Jeon Mu Sool is a structured and systemized Self-Defense program that teaches the used of techniques, skill sets and practical weapons that are not found in today’s Taekwondo dojang.

Our realistic program of instruction offers timely and complete technical training at each rank level all the way to 5th Dan Black Belt. Don’t think of Sil-Jeon Mu Sool as a new system of Taekwondo, because it isn’t. Sil-Jeon Mu Sool is a merge of martial disciplines that follow the principles and concepts of Taekwondo.

Each time we show a Taekwondo player a Sil-Jeon Mu Sool technique, an explosion of reality dawns in their eyes and he/she is immediately applying the innovations they just learned into their existing curriculum. This is not a new style of Taekwondo, this is Taekwondo PLUS!

Dojangs that have purchased the Sil-Jeon Mu Sool Curriculum can have their instructors become certified for each level to add credibility to their program, and to appear higher on our list of affiliated schools to obtain student referrals.

Instructors can test for each of the levels of the curriculum in order, which also correspond to belt ranking in Sil-Jeon Mu Sool. A maximum of two programs can be tested for at any one testing session.

Instructors must truly understand the details of the techniques in each level and be able to execute them competently. We will work with instructors prior to testing to insure that instructors possess all the skills necessary to succeed. Regardless of whether instructors intend to become officially certified or not, all schools that have purchased the Sil-Jeon Mu Sool curriculum have immediate and unlimited access for questions and coaching of any type via e-mail and phone with Jim Mahan and Roger Lewis.

Certified instructors will be listed in order of certification level on the Website, and will receive referrals whenever possible.

The Sil-Jeon Mu Sool Kwan program for dojang use features a in-depth 175 page Instructors Guide and 15 DVD Technique library. You can instantly track down a technique or direction of movement and get it right every time.

The Sil-Jeon Mu Sool Curriculum is designed to provide a concise step-by-step methodology for those wanting to introduce a weapons and groundfighting program into their school. We provide the very best foundation for the development of expert-level skills via our series of DVDs and instructional manuals.

This curriculum is a belt level and instructor level course, designed, tested and proven to give you immediate results. It consists of DVDs and a manual that may be used in conjunction with one another or separately if need be. The manuals include not only detailed instruction on each technique and skill-set, but emphasize ‘key points’ and ‘teaching tips’.

Each Individual program of instruction provides a student manual and DVD (VHS only on request). You will be provided contact information to email, call or write the course instructors to answer questions or to provide any technical assistance. The programs of instruction may also be taught at our location or your location in seminar format.

Once you have completed the certification requirements, you will receive a colorful, internationally recognized Instructor certificate.

Our Sil-Jeon Mu Sool Kwan system allows for our members to refer to a standardized base of teaching while allowing personal preference and variable expansion to be explored. It is our intention to provide a solid base to teach and learn from, and to act as a base for the direct students of Master Instructor Jim Mahan.  It is also the purpose of the organization to provide a home for those who wish to embrace the comprehensive martial system of Sil-Jeon Mu Sool.  As such, it will serve as the rank registration and certifying body for all affiliated students and instructors.

Furthermore, through a direct association with the ACAF a broad range of marketing and promotional opportunities are provided to our qualified members.  The ACAF intends to build a solid structure of responsible leadership, administrators, and qualified instructors.

It is time, we feel, to consider the direction of Taekwondo and the martial arts in general.  Our art is about survival and growth, not sport.
We stand at a crossroads with respect to our art.  If you share our vision of this combative side of Taekwondo, and wish to join us, we welcome you.
