FAQ’s
- Q: How did you develop Sil-Jeon Mu Sool Kwan and why?
A: Roger Lewis and I saw an increasing trend in Taekwondo dojangs to lessen the amount of self defense training that was taught in favor of Olympic style sparring. That is fine as long as you recognize that Olympic style is a sport and is not realistic for the street. Roger and I developed Sil-Jeon Mu Sool to keep the realistic, street smart training in Taekwondo. You will find all ranges of combat covered in Sil-Jeon Mu Sool: punching, kicking, joint manipulation and locking, blocking and trapping, throws reaps and takedowns as well as grappling and groundfighting. All that and we didn’t even talk about weapons. In Sil-Jeon Mu Sool you will learn all about fighting with single and double sticks, knives, flexible weapons and more. - Q: Is Sil-Jeon Mu Sool Kwan compatible with any system or just Taekwondo?
A: The material taught in Sil-Jeon Mu Sool is compatible with just about any art. The tactical training in Joint Manipulation, Standing Grappling, and weapons skills will be useful in any martial art. - Q: How can I become certified in one of your other courses? A: Decide on a course of instruction. Email Jim and confirm your participation in the program. Go to the estore and purchase the program. Read the manual, watch the video, train hard. Rinse, lather, repeat.
- Q: How does the distance learning program work?
A: Across the board without picking a particular program, you just practice the material on the videos along with the basic skills. He or she can then test for each level with any Sil-Jeon Mu Sool instructor. If a Sil-Jeon Mu Sool Kwan Instructor is not available, he must then send a video of himself performing the required material for evaluation. This is for rank levels up to brown belt. Ranks after brown are required to be evaluated in front of a Sil-Jeon Mu Sool Kwan instructor or a testing panel. The distance learning student simply needs to coordinate with the LGT office as to which advancement method is used. - Q: Can I learn these techniques by video?
A: Yes, with enough practice and supervision through email and evaluation videos you send in.
- Q: How long will it take me to get certified?
A: In all honesty, it is up to the dedication and ability level of each student.
- Q: What comes with my package?
A: You will receive the course DVD (s) and any applicable reference materials on an electronic book.
- Q: What if I have questions or concerns?
A: You will have full access to Master Mahan via email and to some students, limited phone calls.
- Q: Will I earn a real belt?
A: You may choose to. If so, you will be evaluated by either Jim, Roger or an Instructor from a appointed Training Center.
- Q: Will I be certified?
A: Yes, through the American Combat Arts Federation and Master Jim Mahan or Master Roger Lewis.
- Q: How many courses can I take at once?
A: In our experience, anything more than learning two subjects at one time can become confusing. We recommend no more than two at a time. - Q: Want to learn more? acaf6@aol.com
